Benefits of Elderberry Tea

The Elderberry plant is a commonly used medicinal herb worldwide; and has been for thousands of years. It was used by the Ancient Egyptians to heal burns and treat complexions. The berries contain anti-aging and free radical fighting properties and  act as a natural detoxifying agent that might help prevent distressing skin conditions like breakouts, boils, and scars.

Native Americans used the plant to fight infections; the high levels of Vitamins A and C help maintain the immune system. The fruit also seems to  decrease mucus production during a cold or flu, thus easing the symptoms.

The father of medicine, Hippocrates, wrote about elderberry as his medicine chest. And, the plant is used still in folk medicine in Europe.

It is the ultimate immune booster containing more flavonoids than blueberries or the super goji berries. Elderberries have many other benefits: for the heart, eyes, and stomach. But, I am making this tea for the immune system, as a way to prevent the colds and flu of the season.
