Homemade Germ Fighters-Hand Sanitizer, Aromatherapy Diffuser and More!!!!
Willie came home from work last evening and said, "you need to make up some of that stuff you make to help keep colds away, because everyone in the office is getting sick." Then, this morning while I was getting out my essential oils, Jenny Wren called and said, "Mom, I think I need some of that throat rub you make, I've got a cold." And even though I didn't hear from Miss Molly, I'm sure she really needs a cold fighter also- since she works with elementary children all day. So, I guess the time is right to help you and my children keep well for the Christmas season.
The best way to keep germs away is by hand washing but that's not always possible. A hand sanitizer is the next best thing. I make my own sanitizer using germ fighting essential oils (100% pure, therapeutic grade) and Aloe Vera gel (no drying alcohol).
Ingredients
Pour Aloe Vera gel in a small glass bowl. Carefully drop the essential oils into the gel. Combine ingredients, mixing well with a glass stirring rod.
Place the sanitizer into a plastic bag. Make a small hole in one corner of the bag. This will allow you to easily fill a small squeeze bottle with the hand sanitizer gel.
Another combination of Aloe Vera gel and essential oils I like is Germ Fighter (a type of Thieves Oil) and Lavender.
Ingredients
Since Wren is already sick, I'm making a blend that will help fight the germs that are already attacking her body.
Ingredients
Combine the above ingredients in a glass bowl. Mixing well. Store in a glass jar.
Use
*Please use caution when applying essential oils directly onto your skin.
This may be rubbed onto the bottom of your feet before retiring at night.
My family also rubs a small amount directly onto the neck and chest area and then covers with some flannel; however, you should use caution if you are sensitive to these concentrated oils.
Finally, diffusing essential oils will help keep the air you are breathing fresh. Many of the smells we associate with the Christmas season help fight all those nasty little germs. I use the small boughs cut from the bottom of the Christmas tree as decorations in my home: I add the following essential oils and let the pine branches act as a diffuser. Choose the oils that remind you of Christmas.
Ingredients
Directions
Mixing Germ Fighter oil with warm water and pour into a container.
Arrange your pine boughs.
Hide oil saturated cotton balls in the arrangement.
Hope these homemade germ fighters will help you stay healthy this Christmas season!
